In India, eSIM currently works on just two Motorola phones: the Razr 60 and the Razr 50 Ultra. Every current Motorola Edge and Moto G model sold here — including the Edge 60 Pro, Edge 60 Fusion and Moto G96 — ships with two physical nano-SIM slots only, even though the global versions of several of these phones do offer eSIM.
Last checked: 24 September 2026, using 91mobiles and Smartprix India spec pages (sourced from Motorola’s own listings), GSMArena’s global database, and Motorola’s support site. Motorola can chnage support with a software update, so it’s worth confirming on the exact unit before you buy.
Motorola phones with eSIM in India: model by model
| Model | eSIM on the Indian unit? | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Motorola Razr 60 | Yes | Both 91mobiles and Smartprix list the India spec sheet as “SIM1: Nano, SIM2: eSIM.” |
| Motorola Razr 50 Ultra | Yes | 91mobiles lists the same “Nano + eSIM” combination, and Motorola’s India support site carries a dedicated eSIM setup article for this model. |
| Motorola Razr 60 Ultra | No | Both 91mobiles and Flipkart’s India spec sheets list it as “Dual Sim” with no eSIM, and a Flipkart customer Q&A on a related Motorola model confirms only physical SIMs. Motorola’s India support portal does carry a page titled “eSIM & SIM card” for this model, which we could not open (blocked to automated readers), but the two independent Indian retail spec sheets agree there is no eSIM on the retail unit. Check with the retailer before you buy if eSIM matters to you. |
| Motorola Edge 60 Pro | No | 91mobiles and Flipkart’s India spec sheets both show dual nano-SIM with no eSIM, and a Flipkart customer Q&A states plainly: “No it doesn’t have e-sim. Only 2 physical sim available.” GSMArena’s global sheet lists an eSIM configuration too, but that option is not offered on the Indian retail unit. |
| Motorola Edge 60 Fusion | No | 91mobiles lists “SIM1: Nano, SIM2: Nano (Hybrid)” for the Indian unit, with no eSIM mentioned. |
| Motorola Edge 50 Fusion | No | 91mobiles’ India spec sheet lists dual nano-SIM only. |
| Moto G96 5G | No | 91mobiles’ India listing shows dual nano-SIM with no eSIM option. |
| Moto G85 5G | No | 91mobiles lists a hybrid dual nano-SIM tray; no eSIM is listed for the Indian unit. |
| Moto G35 5G | No | 91mobiles lists a hybrid dual nano-SIM tray. Owners asking about this on Motorola’s Lenovo community forum have reported the same (reported, not independently verified by us). |
Why don’t Motorola phones sold in India have eSIM?
Motorola has not published an explanation for this, so treat any reason offered online as a guess rather than a confirmed fact. What is clear from comparing the India spec sheets against GSMArena’s global database is that the pattern is deliberate and and consistent across at least three generations of Edge and Moto G phones, not a one-off omission. Several of these same chassis do ship with eSIM in the US, UK and EU, which tells us it isn’t a hardware limitation on Motorola’s side — it’s a market-by-market decision, similar to what we’ve found with OnePlus and Vivo phones sold in india.
Motorola Edge series in India: eSIM status
None of the current Edge-series phones sold in India carry eSIM. The Edge 60 Pro, launched as Motorola’s India flagship for 2026, uses two nano-SIM slots. The Edge 60 Fusion and the older Edge 50 Fusion follow the same pattern, with one of the two trays doubling as a microSD slot on some units (“hybrid” in the spec sheet), which is worth checking seperately if you also want expandable storage. If eSIM is a must-have, an Edge-series phone bought in India is not the right pick today.
Moto G series in India: eSIM status
The Moto G line is Motorola’s budget-to-mid-range series in India, and it mirrors the Edge series here: no eSIM on any current model we checked, including the Moto G96 5G, Moto G85 5G and Moto G35 5G. This holds even though some Moto G models sold in other regions do list eSIM. If you’re comparing dual-SIM Android phones under this budget with eSIM instead, our guide to eSIM phones under ₹30,000 in India is a better place to look, since it only lists models that actually have it.
Razr series in India: the exception
Motorola’s flip phones mostly break the pattern, but not entirely. The Razr 60 and the Razr 50 Ultra both list eSIM on their Indian spec sheets, and are, as far as we could confirm, the only Motorola phones in the Indian market with the feature today. It may be noted that the Razr 60 Ultra — the newer and pricier of the two Ultra models — does not appear to carry eSIM on its Indian unit, going by 91mobiles and Flipkart’s spec sheets, even though Motorolas own India support site does have a page for eSIM setup on that model (a page we could not open ourselves to check its exact wording). If you specifically need eSIM, the base Razr 60 or the Razr 50 Ultra are the safer picks; check with the seller before buying a Razr 60 Ultra if this feature matters to you.
How to check if your Motorola phone supports eSIM
The quickest check does not need any tool beyond the phone itself. Go to Settings, then Network & Internet (or Connections on some builds), then SIM Manager, and look for an “Add eSIM” or “Download a SIM instead?” option. If it’s not there, your unit does not support eSIM, no matter what the box or an online listing says — carrier apps from Jio, Airtel and Vi will also fail to find an eSIM-capable device on such units. It’s also worth asking the retailer to check the box’s IMEI/EID sticker before you buy, since Motorola’s India packaging does not always spell out SIM configuration clearly.
Using eSIM on Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL with a Motorola phone
For the two Motorola phones that do support eSIM in India, activation works the same way as on any other eSIM device: request an eSIM through your operator’s app or store visit, scan the QR code, and the profile downloads over Wi-Fi. Jio, Airtel and Vi all publish their own eSIM request pages — see Jio’s eSIM page, Airtel’s eSIM page and Vi’s eSIM activation page — while BSNL’s eSIM rollout remains more limited and circle-dependent. For the full list of phones, across every brand, that support eSIM in India, see our eSIM compatible phones in India hub. If you specifically want two active SIMs without relying on eSIM, our dual-SIM Android phones list covers phones, including several Motorola models, that take two physical nano-SIMs instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Motorola Razr 60 have eSIM in India?
Yes. Both 91mobiles and Smartprix’s India spec sheets list it as Nano-SIM plus eSIM, and it’s one of only two Motorola phones we could confirm with eSIM in the Indian market.
Does the Motorola Edge 60 Pro support eSIM in India?
No. The Indian retail unit uses two physical nano-SIM slots. Global versions of the Edge 60 Pro do list an eSIM option, but that isn’t what ships in India.
Why do Motorola phones sold in India lack eSIM when the global version has it?
Motorola hasn’t given a public reason. The feature works fine on the same hardware sold in other countries, so this looks like a market-specific decision rather than a technical limit, atleast based on what we could verify.
Which telecom operators support eSIM in India?
Jio, Airtel and Vi all support eSIM on compatible devices. BSNL’s eSIM support is more limited and varies by circle, so check with your local BSNL office if you’re on that network.
Can I use a Motorola phone bought abroad to get eSIM in India?
If the specific unit’s global variant has eSIM hardware enabled — which several Edge and Moto G models do outside India — it should work with an Indian carrier’s eSIM once you’re on Indian soil, provided the phone isn’t carrier-locked. Confirm the exact model and region before importing one just for this.
Does the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra have eSIM in India?
Going by 91mobiles’ and Flipkart’s India spec sheets, no — the Indian unit is dual nano-SIM only. Motorola’s own India support site does have a page for eSIM setup on this model, which we could not open to check directly, but two independent Indian retail sources agree there’s no eSIM on the retail unit. We’d still recommend confirming with the retailer before buying if this feature matters to you.
How do I check if my specific Motorola phone has eSIM?
Open Settings, then Network & Internet, then SIM Manager, and look for an option to add or download an eSIM. If you don’t see it, the unit doesn’t support eSIM, regardless of what the global spec sheet for that model says.
Will future Motorola phones in India get eSIM?
There’s no official word on this from Motorola. Given how consistently the company has kept eSIM off Edge and Moto G units in India across several launches, we wouldn’t expect a change without a clear announcement — we’ll update this page if that happens.
Need an eSIM for international travel too?
If you’re travelling abroad and want a data eSIM for the trip rather than a local SIM queue, a couple of well-reviewed global eSIM providers are worth comparing: Maya Mobile and 7G eSIM. A discount is available through these links. Check each provider’s plan pages for the countries, data amount and whether calls and SMS are included before you buy, since this varies by plan.
