Maya Mobile is a travel eSIM that gives you unlimited data in 165+ countries through one eSIM you install once, with plans from $9.99 for 3 days. It sells data only, not a phone number, so Indian travellers should keep their Indian SIM for calls and OTPs and use WhatsApp for calls abroad. Independent reviews suggest it suits multi-country trips and cruises better than very short single-country stays.

Is Maya Mobile good? Pros and cons
What works well:
- One eSIM covers many countries, so you don’t buy a new plan for each stop.
- Unlimited data plans and hotspot are included.
- The eSIM is reusable and there is no subscription.
- Dedicated cruise plans are available.
What to watch:
- It is data-only. You get no phone number or SMS.
- ‘Unlimited’ is subject to a daily fair-use quota, according to independent reviews of Maya’s terms.
- Prices are in US dollars, and some reviewers say other providers can be cheaper for trips under 7 days.
- Fewer plan choices than providers that sell country-by-country plans.
Is Maya Mobile good for Indian travellers?
It can be, if you travel through several countries and want one eSIM for the whole trip. The usual setup for an Indian traveller is to keep the Indian SIM active on one line for calls and bank OTPs, and use the Maya eSIM for mobile data on the other.
- Check your phone first. It needs to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. See our list of eSIM compatible phones in India, or our iPhone eSIM in India guide.
- Keep your Indian number. A physical SIM plus one eSIM works on most eSIM phones. Some Android phones can also run two eSIMs, as listed in our dual eSIM Android guide.
- Watch roaming charges. Turn off data roaming on your Indian line so all data goes through the Maya eSIM.
- Plan for bank OTPs. To receive OTPs on your Indian SIM abroad, you usually need international roaming active on that line. Check your carrier’s roaming pack, or use app-based authentication where your bank offers it.
- Check payment options. Maya shows prices in US dollars, so confirm at checkout that your card works before you rely on it. Your bank will convert the amount, and international card fees may apply, so check with your bank.
Which popular Indian destinations does Maya cover?
Maya’s country list, checked on 21 September 2026, includes these popular destinations for Indian travellers:
- Middle East: the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey and Egypt
- South and South-East Asia: Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Nepal
- East Asia: Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan
- Europe: the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and more
- North America and Oceania: the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand
Two popular destinations were not on Maya’s list when we checked: the Maldives and Bhutan. If either is on your route, use another provider for that leg. Always search your exact destination on Maya’s site before you buy.
Maya eSIM or your Indian roaming pack?
Jio, Airtel and Vi all sell international roaming packs for their own SIMs, which is the other common way to stay connected abroad. A roaming pack keeps your Indian number working for calls and SMS, while a data eSIM like Maya’s may work out cheaper for mobile data across several countries. Compare your carrier’s current pack for your destination and trip length with Maya’s price, and check calls, SMS and validity on both before you decide.
Maya Mobile unlimited data: what it really means
Maya markets its plans as unlimited data with no caps or throttling, and says the speed you get on day one is what you get on day seven. Independent reviews note that Maya’s own terms describe a daily fair-use quota, so ‘unlimited’ may not mean literally uncapped. For emails, maps, messaging and browsing this is rarely a problem. If you plan to stream video all day or download large files, read Maya’s terms first.
How to install a Maya eSIM
- Choose a plan on Maya’s website or app and pay.
- Download the Maya app and scan your QR code. Maya says the eSIM installs in about two minutes.
- Do this before you leave, on Wi-Fi.
- When you land, turn on the Maya eSIM in your phone settings (on iPhone: Settings > Mobile Service; on Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM manager). Maya connects to a local network automatically.
- Set the Maya eSIM as your mobile data line and turn data roaming off for your Indian SIM.
Maya Mobile eSIM for cruises
Maya sells Global + Cruise plans that cover its land destinations and 20+ cruise lines with one eSIM. An independent review from August 2026 lists them from $49.99 for 3 days to $299.99 for 30 days, so check current prices before you buy. The advantage is that you don’t switch plans between ports and ships.
How to compare Maya with other eSIM providers
Before you buy, compare these points across providers:
- Does the plan cover every country on your route?
- Is it data-only, or does it include a number for calls and SMS?
- Is hotspot included?
- What are the fair-use terms behind ‘unlimited’?
- What is the price per day for your trip length?
- What is the refund policy if the eSIM doesn’t install?
